The so called Cosmati consist in a technique of  opus sectile (“cut work”) formed of elaborate inlays of small triangles and rectangles of colored stones and glass mosaics set into stone matrices or encrusted upon stone surfaces. They take their name from a Roman family of skilful architects, sculptors, and workers in decorative geometric mosaic, mostly for church floors.

Materiae gives a new interpretation to Cosmati creating tailored and precious solutions for any kind of surface with a mix of patterns and materials suitable for residential, retail, hotel solutions, using the ability of an ancient art.
